Your code is yours. GitHub is the easiest way to keep a copy, share it with a developer, or run it somewhere else.
Import an app from GitHub#
- On the Projects page, press Import from GitHub under the prompt box.
-
Press Connect GitHub to choose from your repositories, including private ones. To import a public repository, you can also paste its name (
owner/name) or its address. - Search for the repository and choose it.
- If crisp can run the app, it makes a new project from it, copies the code in, installs it and starts it in the preview. Then ask for changes in the chat as usual.
If you can push to the repository, the project stays linked to it: Push latest, Pull from GitHub and Keep GitHub in sync work as described below. If you cannot (for example, someone else's public repository), the project starts from a copy, and you can export it to a repository of your own.
Export a project#
- Open the project and press GitHub in the top bar. On a phone, open the More menu and choose GitHub.
- Press Connect GitHub and approve access on GitHub. crisp asks for access to repositories only at this step.
- Choose a Repository name. It starts with the name of your project.
- Leave Private repository on if only you, and people you invite, should see the code. Turn it off to make the code public.
- Press Export to GitHub. The whole project is copied into the new repository.
Push your latest changes#
After the export, press Push latest to send your newest version to GitHub. The GitHub panel shows when you last pushed.
Turn on Keep GitHub in sync to push after every change crisp makes. If a push fails, the chat tells you why.
Bring in changes made on GitHub#
If you or a developer change the code on GitHub, press Pull from GitHub to bring those changes into crisp. If the same lines changed in both places, nothing is changed in crisp. The message names the files, so you can settle the difference on GitHub and pull again.
What the repository contains#
- Every source file of your app, including the structure of its database.
- The commands to install and run the app.
- No keys. Keys you gave your app are not part of the code.
Disconnect#
Before you export, the GitHub panel shows which GitHub account is connected, with a Disconnect link. Disconnecting does not delete any repository on GitHub.
