Edit the code yourself
Open the Code tab to read every file of your app and change it by hand. Press Save, or Ctrl and S, and the preview picks up the change.
Updated
On this page
You never have to read code to use crisp. But the code is yours, and the Code tab lets you read it and change it, for example to fix a word or a colour without a new build.
Open a file#
- Click the Code tab, next to Preview.
- The Files list on the left shows the folders and files of your app. Click a folder to open it, and click a file to open it in a tab.
- Press the refresh button at the top of the list if a file crisp just created is not there yet.
crisp opens the main page of your app first. You can open several files in tabs. Middle-click a tab to close it.
Change and save#
- Click in the file and type. A dot on the tab shows that it has unsaved changes.
- Press Save at the bottom of the editor, or press Ctrl and S (⌘ and S on a Mac).
- You see Saved. The preview picks it up. The preview reloads with your change.
When crisp changes the same file#
If crisp changes a file you have open, and you have no unsaved changes in it, the tab shows the new version by itself. To avoid confusion, save your own changes before you send crisp a new message.
What you can and cannot do here#
- You can edit every file of your app, except folders of installed packages and some internal folders, which are hidden.
- You cannot create, rename or delete files in the editor. Ask crisp in the chat to do it: "Create a page at /about with…".
- Very large files cannot be edited here.
What the code is made of#
crisp apps are written in TypeScript and use web components. The database is SQLite, and the code talks to it through Drizzle. When you ask crisp to explain a file, it can tell you what each part does.
