Add AI features to your app

Your app can use AI to write, summarise, sort or suggest, or to chat with your users. It uses your own key from an AI provider, so the cost goes to your account with that provider.

Describe what the AI should do in your app, and where:

Example prompt

On the new class form, add a button that writes a two-sentence description of the class from its title and level. I can edit the text before I save.

What crisp builds#

  • The feature itself, such as a button, a summary or a chat box.
  • Text that appears as it is written, for longer answers.
  • A calm message in place of the feature until the key is added, so nothing breaks.

The key#

By default, crisp uses Anthropic's Claude models. You need an API key from console.anthropic.com. It starts with sk-ant-. Give it to crisp as ANTHROPIC_API_KEY. See Give your app a key.

If you prefer another provider, such as OpenAI or Google Gemini, say so in your request. crisp tells you the name of the key it needs.

Keep costs under control#

  • Set a monthly spending limit in your account with the provider.
  • If only signed-in people should use the feature, say so. It stops strangers from using your key.
