Getting started#

Do I need to know how to code?

No. You describe what you want in plain words, and crisp writes the code. If you do know how to code, you can read and edit every file. See Edit the code yourself.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. The Free plan costs nothing and needs no card. See Plans.

What kind of apps can crisp build?

Web apps with several pages that save data: internal tools, booking pages, trackers, directories, dashboards and small shops. They can have sign-in, file uploads, email, AI features and payments. See Example prompts.

Can crisp build apps for the App Store or Google Play?

No. crisp builds web apps. They work well in a phone's browser, but they are not installed from an app store.

Can my app be in a language other than English?

Yes. Ask for it in your first prompt, for example "All text in Spanish". You can also write your prompts in your own language.

Can other people use my app?

Yes. Publish it, and share its address. See Publish your app.

Can I use crisp on my phone?

Yes. On a small screen, the workspace shows the chat, the preview or the code one at a time, with a bar at the bottom to switch. See The workspace.

Building#

Why does crisp not ask me questions?

So you never come back to a build that waited for you. When something is not clear, crisp makes a sensible choice and says what it chose in its plan. Correct it in your next message.

Can I undo a change?

Yes. Press Restore this version under any reply to go back to it, with the data or the code only. Later replies are kept, so you can redo them. See Undo anything.

What happens to my data when crisp changes the app?

Records you added stay in the database. A change that removes or renames a detail can remove the values stored in it, so say what should happen to existing records. See Your app's data.

Can I work on the same project from two tabs or devices?

Yes. The conversation, the code and the data are saved with the project, so you see the same state everywhere. Only one build runs at a time.

Can I send another message while crisp is working?

Yes. Choose After this build to queue it, or Send now to stop the current build and start your message. See Change your app.

What if I close the tab during a build?

The build keeps going. When you come back, the chat shows everything that happened.

Costs, ownership and privacy#

How much does it cost to build an app?

Building and checking a typical new app uses about one dollar of AI usage, and most small changes use a few cents. Each plan includes some usage every month. See How AI usage is charged.

Do I pay when crisp makes a mistake?

The part of a request where crisp fixes errors it caused itself is not charged, and a request that ends with an error is free. See How AI usage is charged.

Does my published app stop when I run out of usage?

No. Published apps stay online whatever your balance. Running out only pauses new AI requests.

Who owns the app?

You do: the code, the data and the app itself. See What belongs to you.

What does crisp send to AI providers?

Your instructions and the parts of your project the AI needs to do the work, such as code and error messages. See our Privacy Policy.

Does the AI in my app cost extra?

AI features inside your app use your own key from an AI provider, and the provider bills you directly. See Add AI features.
